Youth & Children's Ministries

Known affectionately as the "Seahorses," Southside has a history of being a church filled with opportunities for youth to connect with God, mentors and teachers who care about them, and with each other.  In addition to Sunday School Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m., students in grades seven through twelve have two other regular weekly opportunities for fellowship and discipleship:  Wednesdays beginning at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Most times you'll find our student ated on the top floor of the middle building of our campus, above the church offices.  However, don't be surprised to see our youth out and about in the community at various times throughout the year, serving in nursing homes, low-income housing, and engaging in ministry and missions throughout the area.  There are opportunities for camps and retreats at events such as Fuge Camps, Student Leadership University, Camp Caswell, and Ridgecrest.

Nursery & PRESCHOOL

Having a safe and caring environment for our youngest children is a priority for us.  A nursery is offered for all worship services and many special events for children up to age 5, with background-screened workers.  Sunday School on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. is a great place for your child to interact with his/her peers in a safe environment that introduces them at the earliest of ages to the love of Jesus.  On Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.,  Preschool Choir gives children ages 3-grade K creative experiences in music and art to help introduce them to a relationship with God.  This is followed at 7:15p.m. by "Mission Friends," where this age group learns to pray for and support our missionaries serving all over the world.

Southside understands the importance and value of ministry to children, grades K-6.  We offer Sunday School programs for children and preteens beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday morning, and Southside Kids Children's Church (beginning Feb 19, 2017) meets during the 11:00 worship hour as well.  Leaders in Training on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m.  On Wednesdays, we welcome your children for Children's Choir at 6:30 p.m. (1st graders and up) and Missions Groups (Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action) at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Seasonal activities such as Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, and Egg Hunt are further opportunities where children can fellowship and grow together in Christ.

In addition to out core children's ministry activities mentioned above, for children in grades 3-6, we offer special activities and experiences tailored to older children.  Our "HisWay 24/7"  Preteen Ministry seeks, with caring and enthusiastic leaders, to disciple children and guide them down the path to good choices in this important stage of their development.  Our Sunday School has a special assembly time each week at 9:45 a.m. in the newly renovated Preteen Room (Room 102 basement level in the children's wing) just for this age group before breaking off into smaller groups.  This age group also has regular activities such as lock-ins, retreats, and other fun events to help their spiritual development and to prepare them for activities they will experience as they transition to youth ministry.
